Notes for Prospective Students

Students will learn proper technique, stick control, rhythmic elements of music theory, basic song structure, and how to play within a functioning rhythm section.   Students may also be given a listening list to study at home.

Materials
Students will also be expected to purchase books when necessary.   All students must own drumsticks and a folder to keep weekly assignments (to be brought to every lesson), a metronome, and a practice pad.   Students studying drumset must own, or have definite plans to own in the near future, a drumset to practice on.

Lessons
Lessons start at 30 minutes until an overall assessment is done (usually within the first 6 months) and 60 minute lessons are offered.   Students are expected to set their own practice schedule (45-60 minutes a day is the minimum recommendation) and be prepared for each lesson.   Any lesson cancellations MUST be given more than 24 hours before the scheduled lesson time to avoid charge.   Make-up lessons may or may not be offered week to week depending on availability.

Students must be at least 8 years of age to be accepted.   Lessons are given Monday through Friday 12 pm to 6 pm and Saturdays from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Marching/Rudimental Instruction

Geared towards the high school student and/or drum corps/winter guard participant, students will receive weekly critiques on the execution of rudiment application as well as technique consistency.   Introduction to hybrids and their application to the instrument will also be included. The technique I teach is most consistent with that of Tom Aungst (The Cadets), and Thom Hannum (UMASS). Sticks, practice pad*, and a metronome are required at each lesson.
*Quad/Quints/Multi-Tenor players must bring a multi-tenor pad, such as the one shown HERE
